Name: Renata T.
Mother tongue: Croatian/German
Occupation: CEO of the German Community
My object: wall plate
My story about it:

The wall plate with the text that reads “Vergiß nie die Heimat wo deine Wiege stand, du findest in der Fremde kein zweites Heimatland” (“Never forget your home where your cradle stood, because you will not find a second homeland in the outland”) has hanged in every home we’ve had over the past fifty years. Originally, it was a present to my parents when they still lived in Osijek, then it moved with them to Germany and finally returned to Osijek. My mother got it from her mother, I inherited it from my parents and my son will inherit it from me.
After all, home is where the heart is, and objects like this one remind us where we truly belong.
