Name: Dietrich K.
Mother tongue: German
Occupation: Sculptor
My object: Eskimo-Sculpture
My story about it:
When I went to Canada in 1962, we found a state-owned shop selling works by Eskimos. Some of the artistic works (graphics and soapstone sculptures) were made in sanatoriums. The patients who suffered from tuberculosis were given the chance of occupying themselves with technical-artistic work. We knew Eskimo works from literature and museums and were happy that we were able to buy, i.e. to afford some sculptures. Since then, they have lives with us on a shelf in our living room.
